The initiative for Chimera Music was taken in November 2006 as a response
to the near-extinction of "real" tracker groups, i.e. those releasing in native format. While
existing groups and labels in the scene are doing utterly cool work, there is still a substantial tracker
community in existence. Spearheaded by Alpha Centauri (Marcel van Wijk), five trackers from the
modulez.org community joined forces, and formed Chimera. With
the objective to give the international music scene a regular dose of quality module music, Chimera
started their activities in January 2007.
We choose to release in native module format simply because we love tracking without bells-and-whistles.
The modern era of tracking has seen the advent of new technologies, and closely related, streamed file
formats. Although hardly objectionable because of the numerous advantages presented to the independent
musician, it has marginalized the module format. The module, with its natural "open-sourceness" and that
intangible touch of magic, deserves to survive. Chimera Music is our modest contribution to that cause.

Employing modules does not mean that we only release chiptunes and game music. You will see and hear that
our musical output will encompass a wide range of styles. We also don't shun MP3s; in fact, most of us
release them regularly, having embraced the latest and greatest in music production technology. Indeed,
all our releases will have MP3/OGG renderings available.
In their musical work, the Chimera musicians continually strive to show the tracking scene, and the
independent music community as a whole, that "bare-bone" tracking is still a viable approach to
composing quality music.
All our productions are downloadable at no cost. For the obligatory legal statements, and terms on
copying and redistribution, read the Legal Statements paragraph on the Releases
page.
